A Closer Look at The Second AANA-Exclusive, COVID-19 Webinar: The Novel Coronavirus and Practice Management: Where We Are Now and How to Plan to Reopen Your Practice
A Q&A with Louis F. McIntyre, M.D.
Towards the beginning of April, AANA launched its first live webinar on strategies to implement in order to keep practices alive and well during the acute stage of the COVID-19 pandemic. To follow in its high success, AANA released a second webinar April 23 focusing on having a plan in place once practices reopen.
We asked webinar moderator Louis F. McIntyre, M.D., AANA Immediate Past President, questions regarding the webinar and how viewers will be better prepared for reopening their practices.
What is the second AANA COVID-19 webinar all about? What topics are discussed during this webinar?
Louis F. McIntyre, M.D.: The second webinar is an update on how the management strategies employed by orthopaedic practices have performed and what, if any, changes in strategy were necessary. We also look to the future and all strategies and plans to reopen for business when allowed and safe; assess practices’ abilities to manage cash flow with government programs and lines of credit; and see how human resource strategies have fared and the morale of employees.
What information and/or tips do you hope your colleagues will gain after viewing this webinar?
Dr. McIntyre: Useful information to implement in their practices or reinforcement of the strategies they have already employed. Help in planning for reopening and ramp-up of office and ASC business.
Is there a topic you are particularly eager to discuss during this second webinar?
Dr. McIntyre: Reopening for business and caring for patients in a safe and effective environment.
How do you think this second webinar will better prepare attendees for the next phase in managing challenges due to COVID-19 and resuming patient care?
Dr. McIntyre: This second webinar contains a specific concentration on planning for reopening and ramp-up.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Dr. McIntyre: We are in this together and need to help each other emerge from this crisis intact for the health of our communities.
